Narcissus

Social daemons permeate our everyday lives. Growing up on social media platforms, we consciously, or unconsciously develop an alternate persona that acts as an extension of our being. This reflected version is the idealized, ego-driven self we want to be perceived as. Much like the story of Narcissus, fated to be unrecognizable to himself as an adult, we lose what makes us unique as a consequence of our vanity. Through these series of images, I express the idea of losing grasp of who we truly are through the lens of social media. Inspired by classical representations of Narcissus, I employ visual strategies and symbolic references as a means of connecting the myth to modern-day issues revolving around identity, self-modification, rebirth, and healing.
