The Things We Carry With Us

Women curated the key experiences that define our Italian-American family. Looking back at the family archives I’ve collected over the years, it is evident how roles and rituals manifested through photographs, and trickled down through generations. This work was created on family doilies used during the most popular ritual: Family Dinners. Similar to my image transfer of this moment, the memories have faded in time, leaving nothing but remnants of stains. I may never know the details of what occurred during this ritual, what was discussed, what these members of my family believed in, cared about, or dreamed for, but this tangible manifestation of moments passed remains.
